Migration Group
The Migration Group report provides a consolidated view of the migration groups defined for your environment and the migration plans associated with each group. Use this report to understand how workloads are organized, review plan progress, and identify groups or plans that may require attention during migration execution.

Available operations:
- View a list of migration groups
- View the migration plans associated with each migration group
- Review migration group and plan status
- Compare workload counts across migration groups and plans
- Review scheduled and actual migration timing
- Identify migration groups or plans that are not started, in progress, complete, delayed, or failed
- View migration groups by clicking the hyperlink of the Migration Group field
- View the properties migration plan records by clicking the hyperlink of the Migration Plan field
Overview
The Migration Group report provides a hierarchical view of migration groups and the plans contained within them. It answers three important planning and execution questions:
- How are workloads organized for migration? (Migration groups and associated plans)
- What is the status of each group and plan? (Not started, in progress, complete, delayed, or failed)
- Is migration execution progressing according to plan? (Workload counts, scheduled dates, actual dates, and completion status)
The report combines migration-group structure, plan membership, status, and scheduling information into a single view, allowing you to monitor execution and identify work that requires attention.
Key Benefits
- Understand how migration plans are organized into migration groups
- Review the status and progress of each migration group and plan
- Compare workload counts and migration scope across groups
- Identify delayed, failed, or incomplete migration activity
- Compare planned migration dates with actual execution dates
- Support migration coordination and stakeholder reporting
The following sections describe how the information presented in the Migration Group report can be used to coordinate migration execution and monitor progress.
Migration Coordination
Use the information in this report to understand the relationship between migration groups and their plans. This information helps coordinate workload sequencing, track execution against planned dates, and identify groups or plans that require remediation, rescheduling, or additional follow-up.
| Report Area | Key Information | Planning Value |
|---|---|---|
| Migration Group | Name and status of the migration group | Identify the organizational unit used to coordinate related migration plans. |
| Plans | Migration plans contained within each migration group | Understand the work packages that make up the migration group. |
| Status | Current state of the migration group or plan | Identify work that is not started, in progress, complete, delayed, or failed. |
| Workload Count | Number of virtual machines or workloads associated with the group or plan | Compare migration scope and execution effort across groups and plans. |
| Planned Dates | Target start and completion dates | Understand the intended migration schedule and sequencing. |
| Actual Dates | Actual start and completion dates | Compare execution against the planned schedule and identify delays. |
| Progress | Completion information for migration work | Monitor whether groups and plans are progressing as expected. |
Monitoring Metrics
| Metric | Used For |
|---|---|
| Migration Groups | Understand the organizational structure of the migration program |
| Plans | Identify the migration work contained within each group |
| Status | Identify work that is complete, active, delayed, or blocked |
| Workload Count | Compare migration scope and effort |
| Planned Start and End | Review the intended migration schedule |
| Actual Start and End | Measure execution against the planned schedule |
| Completion Progress | Monitor migration execution and remaining work |
Typical Workflow
The following workflow provides a recommended approach for using the Migration Group report during migration planning and execution.
- Review the migration groups defined for the environment
- Expand each migration group to review its associated plans
- Compare workload counts and migration scope across groups and plans
- Review the current status of each group and plan
- Compare planned migration dates with actual execution dates
- Identify delayed, failed, or incomplete migration activity
- Open affected groups or plans to investigate and coordinate next steps
- Revisit the report regularly to monitor progress through completion
This workflow represents a recommended starting point. During active migration, use the report to coordinate execution, identify exceptions, and communicate progress to project stakeholders.
